The Political Inclusion and Consensus Building project seeks to strengthen Ghana’s democratic governance by promoting dialogue, cooperation, and inclusive decision-making among political parties and Parliament. Implemented by the African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA) in collaboration with the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs FDFA, the project focuses on supporting political party leaders, youth, women, and parliamentary institutions to play constructive roles in reducing political tensions.
Key Objectives
The proposed work with political parties is aimed at:
- Enhance the technical staff capacity of the Office of Policy and Fiscal Analysis to support effective parliamentary oversight.
- Establishing platforms for political parties to foster cooperation and tolerance.
- Facilitating inter-party dialogue to reduce political tensions.
Expected Outcomes
On the whole, it is expected that the program will enhance cross-party collaboration, collective decision-making and inclusion within governance and democratic process in Ghana.
Specifically, the program will achieve the following:
- Increased public trust in political parties and political processes
- Enhanced political stability
- Strengthened democratic processes
- Enhanced participation of marginalized groups in political and democratic processes
- Policy continuity and long-term planning
Improved Oversight: Through support to the Office of Policy and Fiscal Analysis, parliamentary committees and individual members of Parliament will receive the needed support to analyse budgets, bills and international agreements. This will ultimately lead to an improvement in the ability of Parliament to perform its oversight functions, particularly those of the power of purse as stipulated in Articles 103(3) and 179(4) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana
