Advancing Religious Freedom at the International Religious Freedom (IRF) Summit

Our Executive Director joined MPs and global stakeholders at the International Religious Freedom (IRF) Summit in Washington, DC this year. This annual gathering serves as a critical platform for discussing the state of religious freedom and tolerance worldwide, bringing together policymakers, civil society, and faith leaders to advocate for stronger protections of religious rights. The summit’s participants discussed the ongoing challenges faced by religious communities around the world, from discrimination and persecution to restrictions on religious practices, while emphasizing the resilience and determination of religious groups and advocates, who continue to fight for freedom of belief in the face of adversity.

The IRF Summit is dedicated to advancing religious freedom for all. It provides a space for dialogue, networking, and coordinated action among governments, parliamentarians, faith-based organizations, and human rights advocates. The summit highlights challenges, threats, and progress in religious freedom efforts, ensuring that this fundamental right remains a priority on the global agenda.

Africa’s Commitment to Religious Freedom

Members of the Parliamentary Caucuses on Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) in Africa—which ACEPA and the International Panel of Parliamentarians on Freedom of Religion or Belief (IPPFoRB) helped establish—are actively participating in the summit. Their involvement underscores Africa’s growing commitment to promoting religious freedom through legislative action and policy reforms.

ACEPA remains committed to supporting legislative efforts that foster inclusive, tolerant, and peaceful societies. We look forward to meaningful discussions and collaborative solutions at this year’s IRF Summit.
