The African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs- ACEPA and the Ghana Statistical Service, under the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation funded Data for Accountability Project (DAP), held a two-day workshop for staff of the Parliament of Ghana on the 19th and 20th of October, 2024. The engagement was geared towards the development of a robust procedural and administrative database in the Parliament of Ghana.
Bringing together Directors and data management focal persons from various departments, the workshop delved into the kinds of data generated by the departments through their daily operations, how the data is generated, and how it is organized and managed. Participants had the opportunity to elaborate on their unique departmental mandates, highlighting the methodologies they employ to collect, organised, and store relevant information.
Another aspect of the engagement had participants working with the support of Data Management experts to develop templates for their respective departments, to improve how the departments collect and manage their data and information.
The workshop, a first under the auspices of the Parliament of Ghana’s Data Management Department, has been instrumental in not only laying the foundation for building a reliable administrative and public policy database in Parliament towards strengthening data-driven legislative work; but also, served to enhance the knowledge of participants on the work of various departments, opportunities for building synergies and ways to reduce the rate of duplication of effort across departments.
