
Ibrahim Tanko Amidu
He is currently employed as the executive director of STAR-Ghana Foundation, a national center for active citizenship and local philanthropy. The Foundation works to strengthen civil society and enable citizens to engage with state and non-state actors to ensure accountable, transparent, and responsive governance. He was for 10 years (2010 to 2020), the Programme Director of the STAR-Ghana programme, a multi-donor funded programme to strengthen civil society, enhance the effectiveness of advocacy actions for inclusive access to quality public goods and services and promote good governance.
Alhaji Ibrahim-Tanko is a highly respected thought leader on issues of inclusive and sustainable development, peace and security and good governance. He has spoken at and led discussions on these issues and topics at various international, national and local fora.
He has received numerous international and national awards. He was the first recipient of the World Bank’s Leadership Prize for Social Accountability in Africa. He has also been recognised by the civil society community in Ghana and internationally. He was made an Honorary Fellow by the Ghana Institute of Directors in 2018. He sits on the boards of six international, national and local civil society organisations.He is the Board Chair of the Africa Philanthropy Network, headquartered in Tanzania and was elected in 2025 to serve a four-year team.
Mr Ibrahim-Tanko is the Convenor of the Ghana Civil Society Forum, a mechanism to mobilise and coordinate civil society actions towards strengthening and protecting te civic space and to enhance the resilience, effectiveness and responsiveness of civil society.
He is a member of the 8-member Constitutional Review Committee committee set up by the President of Ghana in 2025 to formulate recommendations for the amendment of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution. He is also a member of a 3-member committee advising the Government of Ghana on the development of mechanisms and spaces to promote good governance in Ghana.
Ibrahim-Tanko holds a Master’s degree in Social Policy from the Centre for Social Policy Studies, University of Ghana, Legon and a Bachelor’s degree in Administration from the School of Administration, University of Ghana, Legon. He is currently pursuing PhD in Social Policy at the University of Ghana, Legon.
