Exchange visit to Sierra Leone by The Gambia Parliamentary caucus on FoRB

A six-member delegation from The Gambia Parliamentary caucus namely Hon Amadou Camara, Hon Saikou Bah, Hon Sanneh Lamin J, Hon Cham Fatou, Hon Alhagie Babou Ceesay and Ms Sarata Bojang undertook an exchange visit to Sierra Leone. The two-day visit, 2nd -3rd March, 2023, sought to expose members of the delegation to freedom of religion or belief (FoRB) situation in Sierra Leone through interaction with key stakeholders, share ideas, and learn lessons on the practice of freedom of religion or belief that will help them in their advocacy for the promotion and protection of fundamental human rights, particularly advocate for the rights of minorities in The Gambia.

On the first day of their engagement with key stakeholders, they paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament of Sierra, Rt Hon Abass Bundu. The Deputy Speaker of parliament, Hon Segepeh Solomon received members of the delegation on behalf the Rt Hon Speaker as he was in the Chamber of Parliament.

The Deputy Speaker expressed his delight in welcoming the visitors from the Parliament of The Gambia and wished them successful stay in Sierra Leone. Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Chairman of the parliamentary caucus on Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) of The Gambia, Hon Amadou Camara expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and looked forward to holding fruitful meetings with key stakeholders to better appreciate FoRB situation in Sierra Leone.

He hoped that the meetings will provide opportunity to share experiences and also learn new things with respect to freedom of religion or belief. The delegation was privileged to be usheredinto the Chamber of Parliament following their meeting with the Deputy Speaker, where the Speaker of Parliament duly recognised their presence.
