On Wednesday the 23rd of October 2024, the African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA) and the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) Ghana hosted a cyber security awareness webinar on “Combating Misinformation and Disinformation in a Digitally Resilient Democracy – Our Collective Responsibility.” This interactive session brought together stakeholders, including Members of Parliament from various African countries, media professionals, parliamentary staff, and representatives of civil society organizations (CSOs).
The webinar among other things explored issues around tools/techniques used for misinformation/disinformation; essential safeguarding mechanisms to curb the phenomenon and enhance cyber security; cyber threats to elections and the role of various stakeholders in protecting the integrity of digital platforms and spaces. Participants, particularly MPs from Ghana, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and The Gambia shared experiences and lessons from their country contexts on the challenges posed by misinformation and disinformation and mitigating strategies.
We are glad to have partnered with the Cyber Security Authority Ghana on this initiative and we hope that this awareness creation exercise spurs individual level and institutional level actions towards keeping cyber spaces secure.
