Visit by the Chairperson of the Steering Group of the African Parliamentarians Association for Human Rights (AfriPAHR) and an MP, Parliament of the Republic of South Africa
28-September-2021

Honourable Nqabayomzi Lawrence Saziso Kwankwa, Chairperson of the Steering Group of the African Parliamentarians Association for Human Rights (AfriPAHR) and an MP, Parliament of the Republic of South Africa visited Accra, Ghana from Thursday 2nd September to Saturday 4th September 2021.

One of the key objectives of the visit was to familiarize himself with the work of the African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA). Hon Kwankwa met with the staff of ACEPA and held a series of meetings with the Executive Director Dr. Rasheed Draman and Dr Gifty Adika Senior Governance Advisor (contact person for AfriPAHR at ACEPA).

The consultations with the ACEPA team helped strengthen further the partnership and collaboration that ACEPA and the International Panel of Parliamentarians for Freedom of Religion or Belief (IPPFoRB) provide in support of the work of the AfriPAHR network.

Honourable Kwankwa met with other key stakeholders to share information and experiences from their work on Human Rights and Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB). This included engagement with the Executive Secretary, Mr. George Amoh, and staff of the secretariat of the National Peace Council. Honourable Kwankwa also paid a courtesy call on the Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Mr. Joseph Whittal.

These engagements highlighted the need to forge and strengthen partnerships among organizations that promote FoRB and human rights issues on the continent and globally to promote peace, human rights for all and to build a fairer and inclusive Africa/world.
